Smoothie Day 3: Strawberry-Peach-Spinach-Chia Seeds

With this smoothie, I used chia seeds for my very first time. Chia seeds are interesting. They kind of look like poppy seeds, but they do so much more for you!

Chia seeds are supposed to help boost energy, lower bad cholesterol, promote stable blood sugar levels, help lose weight, reduce the inflammatory response within the body, improve hydration, improve sleep… and the list goes on and on. I’m definitely not an expert, but just google “chia seeds” and you’ll see a TON of information about the benefits of this tiny little seed.

I just added mine to the top of my smoothie right before heading to work. HLB, who is doing some fancy book-learnin’ on food/diet, told me the seeds get kind of chewy like tapioca once they’re hydrated. This is so true. They became kind of gelatin-like and sort of stuck together. So… the next time I make this, I will mix the seeds in right away.

Strawberry Peach Chia Seed Smoothie

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup frozen peaches
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • Milk
  • Spinach
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

Blend your fruits, yogurt, and milk. Add in as much spinach as you can handle (are you MAN enough for this smoothie? Okay, maybe being “man enough” isn’t really appropriate and definitely not PC…. um, are you Popeye enough for this smoothie? And now I’m just back to being a dork…).    🙂 Stir in the chia seeds and let them sit for an hour or so in the refrigerator. And… enjoy your tasty, chewy treat.
